A glance at the calendar, a piecing together of people and plans, and over a handful of late summer days, the little house swelled to hold five. Two parents, two sons + one girlfriend. A girlfriend! What fun to make up a bed for her upstairs in the bunk nook by the window and put flowers on her nightstand; to have conversations in the kitchen, to chat about knitting and crochet on the couch, to send her outside with a pair of sheers for snipping violas to scatter across the cake.
Oh how I love it when life fills the house!
Over fleeting time in our fleeting days, there was time at a mountain lake, paddling, hammocking, soaking up the sun. There were late mornings, lunches in town, hunting plans, football games. There was food, food, food. A campfire, too, and, laughing, talking, and eating that cake. And there was one very happy dog.
Before we were ready, leftover food was divided between brothers, backpacks were hauled back out the front door, and the crochet basket carried out to the waiting truck. Hugs, then, and ‘Drive safe’ and ‘Text us when you get there.’
This is family life now. In snatches of time and handfuls of days, scattered throughout the year.
Sure sounds like such an fun filled days at your home. I am so happy they came for an visit. Oh my goodness, as an reader, from way back remember them as little ones, then into school, and now they have all gone onto to begin there lives and adventures, Bitter Sweet.
I can imagine Miss Maggie Mae, was such an Happy, girlie with all of them there.
Ohhhhh cherished sweet beautiful memories.
Thank you
Our days are very similar and our pup Remy has been gone almost a year. Luckily one of our sons has a girlfriend who has a pup and they've stayed over a couple of times (without our son who is in the
Marine Corps) and we've had a lovely time. I'm so glad you all had a wonderful time together.
