I’ve been away this week, working here at this house tucked away on the side of a mountain, scurrying along with the last of the trades and installers to wrap it up and settle it in… settle them in, the sweet family who gets to call this house home. Over two years of planning, and six months of construction, through many skilled hands, breath has come here. What an amazing thing to witness.
To be trusted with a dwelling is a great honor, a privilege, and a hope. To be given the chance to stir the soul of a home and bring it to life. To remove its encumbrances and let it become the best of itself in function and beauty. To allow it to embrace and shelter those it holds in the most intimate ways. To carry their life gently and write their story on its walls. To create a home that knows them, manifesting the intangible, building a dream.
I feel so strongly about home. I’m curious about perspective and light, scale and proportion, about stone and wood, metal, glass, and cloth, about those things that create the framework that holds us. I’m drawn to the soulful interplay between the dweller and the dwelling, for quiet simplicity, for rambunctious interludes.Â
I’m interested in living well.
I’m interested in helping others live well. It’s my supreme hope that, whatever house I’m invited to work with, whether by a sweeping gesture or a light touch, I can bring the experience of living well to those who belong there.
Hey, loves! I hope you’ve had a lovely week. I’ve got two things to share with you!

Second, I’m working on an upcoming series and need your input! It’ll be a Q & A, so please email any questions you have for me to carmella@carmellarayone (dot com) and put Q & A in the subject line. Questions might be about design, simple living, our life/lifestyle, etc
