It was so late. Far past spring planting time. But on a mad and hopeful whim, I mail ordered an assortment of dahlia tubers at half price. They arrived, and were directly relegated, still in their box, to the cool of the larder until an even later June day when I finally zoomed outside, grabbed my shovel, dug holes, and dropped them in the ground.
