Read the Room - where I walk you through a room and let you see with me. Read the Room is my antidote to the common, overwhelming message of “Shop the room!” This series is meant to bring balance. To inspire and inform, with ideas and concepts, with ways and means, for living in and furnishing our homes. To help us all remember that a beautiful room is so much more than a catalog of specific goods to be acquired.
Let’s continue exploring this diminutive Brooklyn townhouse. From the parlor level, down one flight of stairs, you’ll find the dining area with a window looking out onto the commons side of the garden level. The original fireplace that anchors this end of the room was redone with a raised firebox and wood storage space below. The unfussy plaster finish helps the fireplace visually recede and read as simple and utilitarian. A hearth of pale stone tiles is laid on the same plain as the oak flooring, thoughtfully giving no variation in height between the two.
