I love this so much! We planted a tiny bit of dill for the first time last year, thinking it would be for culinary use. I was surprised to find swallowtail caterpillars ate it up! Then we had to buy more and more (for the babies, of course. They kept coming. It was the right thing to do.) So this year a much larger portion of my tower garden will be dill....and then hopefully butterflies. I love your writing and I love this reminder of how beautiful simplicity is. Thank you.

Oh what a lovely surprise! I think dill is just so beautiful, and the fragrance! I had no idea that swallowtails love it, how fun.

Thank you for this post. Have you ever thought about writing a book? I like your writing so very much, it evokes a lot of feelings, even though it is mostly about house or garden topics which are usually not filled with that many feelings. I think you have a great gift there.

Thank you, Inga! There have been many requests from readers over the years to write a book, and something my husband and I were talking about just the other day. You never know where these words will end up!

Saw the most beautiful wild flower display (poppies, cornflowers, daisies etc) outside someone's house the other day. Just a small section between the front lawn and path leading to the front door. It made me smile to see it but reminded me that, yet again, I had not sprinkled seeds early enough! Try again next year!!

Ohh!! Sounds divine! But also? I don’t think you’ve missed your window this year! I’ve scattered seeds the beginning of JULY and had crazy blooms that year! Last year, it was near the middle of June! I’m zone 4b

Here is the UK spring has most definitely sprung already! It has been unseasonably warm and dry for this time of year and the roses and peonies are already out, probably a month early. It's been lovely to have warm weather and no rain and wind but it means that my chance to plant seeds is probably gone. I may give it a go in an area of garden that has been cleared of weeds though...

Yes, what a joy to sow seeds and harvest flowers. My seeds go in tomorrow morning.

I decided it might be better not to sow today. We are expecting 5(!) days of heavy rain. I am afraid my seeds will drown. I'll try next weekend when the soil is nice and damp. I have a lot of indoor projects to work on as I slowly make my house a home, curtains to sew (another kind of sowing), organizing the kitchen, etc. I don't have to worry about idle hands. I have given away most of what I used to own and am now down to the things I love. Hopefully, I will find a place for all of it. Thank you again for your support.

Oh! I forgot to tell you that a friend of mine is coming for night June 10th. The NC Symphony is having a free concert on The Common. We'll have a picnic supper and enjoy music under the stars. Another reason why I love this town. She's bringing Lenten Roses from her garden.
